Quote City: Brendan Flaherty on his battle against throat cancer

Duluth Marshall boys hockey Brendan Flaherty, who was diagnosed with throat cancer in early April and is undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, addressing a standing-room-only crowd at a benefit held for him at the Greysolon Plaza Moorish Room on Friday night: “I haven’t cried yet in this whole process, and you guys are making this hard because the support has been overwhelming. I want to make something very clear right now: In three months I will get a clean bill of health. I’ve completed the first three weeks in a seven-week program, and I’m ready for the next four. And like I said, we’ll get through it. It’s a grind, it’s grueling, and its not easy. The support I continue to receive like this, I can’t tell you how much it means. When you see people in the chemo ward, the radiation, they’re by themselves and I don’t know how they do it. Thank you for all this, from the bottom of my heart.”
