Wrap-up of This Week

Installation on the top of the retaining wall next to the Gateway Building is ongoing.

Removal of 100-year-old steam heating system has continued into the 400 block. The removal of the existing Duluth Energy Heating System involves the mitigation and removal of the existing asbestos containing steam pipes that have been serving downtown Duluth for over 100 years. The removal of these pipes are performed by a licensed asbestos abatement contractor and on site environmental monitoring ensures worker and public safety.

The installation of storm sewer pipe has continued on 4th Ave. W.

New hot water pipe, insulation and jacket for the heating system has been placed on 5th Ave W.

Electrical duct installation has begun on 5th Ave. W.

What to Expect June 24-30

Access to all businesses and residences remain open.

Continued work on 4th Ave W and 5th Ave W intersections.

Concrete work to continue for the retaining wall next to the Gateway Building

5th Avenue W Intersection Opening Date Adjustment

Due to additional work on an underground tunnel and the change in dates with MnDOT’s Mesaba Avenue Project, the City of Duluth has extended the open date for vehicular traffic on 5th Ave. W to July 7th.

Historic walking tours of Superior Street are being offered at no charge through a partnership with the City and Duluth Experience.
