It is an exciting time of growth for arts groups in downtown Duluth.
From the HART District on one end and the Duluth Art Institute on the other, the downtown arts community is thriving and looking to attract local and seasonal visitors to a monthly, year round Downtown Arts Walk. The inaugural event will take place on Friday, June 29 as a way to unite, revitalize, and enrich the community through the arts.
The Downtown Arts Walk is the creation of The Downtown Duluth Arts Collective. Together, they represent more than 25 arts businesses/groups, individual artist studios and cultural centers that will be participating: 315 Gallery at the Washington Co-op, AICHO (Galleries, Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center, Indigenous First Art & Gifts) , Arola Architecture Studios, Art in the Alley, Blush, CF design ltd, Duluth Art Institute (DAI), Duluth Coffee Company, Mavis. Designer Showroom, Joseph Nease Gallery, Legacy Glassworks, Lizzard’s Gallery, the Nordic Center, Pineapple Arts Building: the Pineapple Arts store, UMD Faculty Studios, Alison Aune Studio, Kirsten Aune Textiles, Magic Smelt Ship Shop, The Tight Squeek Press Shop, Prøve, Rockingchair Studio, The Red Herring, Tischer Photographic Gallery, Wagner Zaun Architecture, and Zeitgeist Arts.
Activities during the Downtown Arts Walk will range along the creative spectrum, including: art exhibits, gallery talks, art demonstrations, musical performances and more. The monthly Arts Walk will begin at 4 PM and go on into the late night downtown scene. This is a walkable night of entertainment that all ages can enjoy, as we partner with neighborhood eateries, bars and performance venues to provide further incentives to come out and celebrate downtown arts culture. Event venues will be participating in the Walk during staggered times and information about venues and the times can be found on the Downtown Duluth Arts Walk Facebook page (@DuluthArtsWalk).
Additional Arts Walks are planned for July 27, August 31, September 28 and October 26, with November and December dates to follow.
