Duluth Public Arts Commission requesting artists qualifications for art in the NorShor Theatre skywalk

By Pakou Ly
The Duluth Public Arts Commission (DPAC) is excited to announce the commissioning of an art piece that will be installed in the skywalk corridor of the recently restored NorShor Theatre. DPAC is now requesting artists qualifications for this project with a due date of Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 2 p.m.

Submissions will be accepted from artists located within a 200-mile radius of Duluth. The detailed RFQ can be found at the following links: http://www.duluthmn.gov/media/543863/rfq-norshordoc.pdf http://www.duluthmn.gov/media/543862/rfq-attachement-norshors-brick-wall-measurements-photos.pdf

Finalists will be selected from the RFQ process and will be sent a Request for Proposal (RFP) within two weeks of being selected. It is anticipated that a final artist will be selected by mid-November this year. The NorShor Theatre is in the center of the HART (historic arts and theatre) district of downtown Duluth, which features historic buildings and architecture, art venues (including the NorShor itself), Lakewalk access, and many shops and restaurants.

The City of Duluth’s commitment to public art as an integral component of the recently rehabilitated NorShor Theatre presents a significant opportunity to create a permanent public art installation.

All artists submitting a response to the RFQ will be notified as to their qualification status. It is important to ensure that a valid email address and phone number are included in the response for future correspondence. Responses may be sent via email to Jason Hale at jhale@duluthmn.gov
