Essentia Health welcomes new chief operating officer

Essentia Health today announced the appointment of Brad Beard (right) as chief operating officer for Essentia facilities in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.

Beard comes to Essentia from Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis, where he served most recently as a regional president overseeing Fairview Southdale, a 390-bed hospital in Edina, and Fairview Ridges, a 150-bed hospital in Burnsville.

Beard began his career as a physical therapist before expanding his leadership experience to broader hospital and clinic operations. He has a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Minnesota as well as bachelor’s degrees in physical therapy and physical education.

“Brad has demonstrated a commitment to quality patient care, achieving numerous quality awards and excelling compared to national benchmarks,” said Essentia Health CEO Dr. David C. Herman. “He has a strong track record for mission-focused, collaborative leadership, building solid relationships with clinicians, nurses and other health care professionals.”

Beard and his wife, Gwen, have three adult daughters.
