The Duluth Denfeld high school girls tennis team will scrimmage powerful Lakeville South at 8 a.m. Saturday at Laura MacArthur Elementary Tennis Courts in West Duluth.

“Our program has been getting better every year and this is the best team I’ve had,” said fifth-year Hunters coach Kayelyn McDonald. “Kaitlyn MacMillan, our No. 1 singles player, is a freshman. We’re a young team with only three seniors — Kaylee Klang, Maggie Carlos and Lauryn Anderson. We’ve been enjoying three-hour practices here in the preseason, which is a bit more of a commitment that we have made in past seasons. A lot of our girls have been playing all summer. Our top four singles players and top doubles team are solid.”

Duluth Denfeld will open the 2018 season next Thursday against Fridley, Osseo and North Branch in a Cambridge-Isanti tournament.
