Dr. Kristin Colling, a trauma surgeon, has joined the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic.
As part of the Trauma and Critical Care team, Dr. Colling will provide immediate diagnosis and surgical intervention for patients who have suffered severe trauma or have a surgical emergency, as well as care for patients and their families during their recovery phase in the ICU.
“As a child, I underwent a lot of surgeries, so I was able to see firsthand how surgical care can positively impact a person’s life,” said Dr. Colling. “I love that I now get to provide this kind of care for others and I think it gives me a unique perspective on patient care.”
Dr. Colling earned a medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, where she also completed a residency in general surgery and a fellowship in surgical critical care.
“I feel very blessed that I get to help patients and their families through what is typically a very difficult time in their lives,” Dr. Colling said.

Dr. Gunnar (Gunther) Wagoner, a hospitalist, is currently practicing at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Originally from Glencoe, Minnesota, Dr. Wagoner is thrilled to be starting his practice in Duluth.
“Minnesota is home. We have family and friends throughout the state, and I love all the outdoor activities that are available around Duluth,” he said.
Dr. Wagoner earned a medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He completed a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
“I love the variety of patients I get to take care of and the pace that comes with working in the hospital,” said Dr. Wagoner. “I work to understand each patient’s whole story in addition to their immediate medical needs, and I try to gain a good sense of all that patients and families are feeling and thinking during stressful moments.”
