Team North wins Elite League opener

Duluth East’s Brendan Baker scored two goals, including the game-winner early in the third period, as Team North defeated Team Northeast 3-2 in an Upper Midwest High School Elite League hockey season-opening game Saturday morning at New Hope Arena in New Hope, Minn.

Hermantown’s Blake Biondi added a second-period goal for Team North, and Greenway goaltender Carter Clafton stopped 23 of 25 shots.

Team North (1-0) next plays Wisconsin (0-1) at 8 p.m. today and CCM (0-1) at 9 a.m. Sunday, both at New Hope Arena.
