Many a bad guy has learned the hard way that running from a police K-9 is a bad idea. In contrast, runners in the second annual 5K-9 will see that running for a K-9 can be a lot of fun, and supports a great cause. 5K-9 Run for the Dogs will be Saturday, October 6, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Lester Park Pavilion at 61st Avenue East and Superior Street.
All proceeds from the race go to the Amsoil Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation, which supports the K-9 teams from five area law enforcement agencies – the Duluth, Hermantown and Superior Police Departments and St. Louis County and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices.
Several K-9 teams will participate in the event, running the race with their handlers, or meeting fans at the start or finish line. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome. Registration is $30 and can be done online or at the event. Race day sign up and packet pickup will be from 7-8:45 a.m. Registration and additional race details can be found online at northlandk9.org.
Sponsors of the 5K-9 include Amsoil, Inc., WDIO-TV, Duluth Screen Printing, Tone Coughlin Photography, Minnesota Pipe Trades, US Bank, Jamar and Duluth AV Logistics.
The Amsoil Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. The Foundation has helped fund the purchase of eight K-9s in the last three years.
